Watch Fireworks Aboard Your Boat this Independence Day

Fireworks Display 2014The fourth of July holiday weekend is only a week away and there isn’t a better place to enjoy fireworks than on a boat with friends and family. We’ve assembled a list of some of the most popular spots across the country for boaters to celebrate Independence Day on-water.

Chicago, Illinois

Navy Pier offers a great fireworks display which is choreographed to music that will light up the Chicago night sky. If you don’t have your own boat, you can still enjoy the show aboard one of the many cruises offered at Navy Pier (Navy Pier, 9:30 pm)

Los Angeles, California

The annual fireworks display over Marina del Rey takes place at 9 pm and lasts approximately 20 minutes. Celebrate with a bang aboard your boat in the marina! (Marina Del Ray, 9:00 pm)

Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Part of the Summerfest Music festival, the Big Bang Fireworks start at dusk but activities run all day long on the lakefront. This is by far the biggest and most popular fireworks display in the area (Henry Maier Festival Park, dusk)

New York, New York

Macy’s 38th annual 4th of July Fireworks will take place on the East River by the Brooklyn Bridge. The official start time is 9pm, however, the show usually begins around 9:25pm and lasts approximately 25 minutes. (East River, 9 pm)

Tacoma, Washington

The Freedom Fair offers a full-day of events for Independence Day, with its annual 4th of July Airshow, Festival and Fireworks on the Ruston Way waterfront. Admission is free but a donation is suggested and worth it for the art, music, food and family fun. (Ruston Way Waterfront, dusk)

New Orleans, Louisiana

At the battle of the barges on the Mississippi River at Go Fourth on the River in New Orleans, barges compete against each other for pyrotechnic supremacy. The music is provided by the Navy Band and can be best seen from the river. (New Orleans Riverfront, 9 pm)

Boston, Massachusetts

The Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular is an annual July 4th celebration and brings hundreds of thousands to the area. The concert begins at 8:30 pm with the fireworks starting 2 hours later. Be sure to check the boating guidelines posted on the event website. (DCR Hatch Shell, 10:30 pm)

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

What’s better than celebrating Independence Day in America’s birthplace? Philadelphia always has a unique way of celebrating the fourth of July. The Party on the Parkway starts at noon and the Grand Finale finishes the night off with a fireworks display best viewed from the river. (Benjamin Franklin Parkway, 10:30 pm)
